Alpha - The first of Old Yeller's legacy

Alpha was rescued from DeKalb animal control on August 25, 2010. He had been in the shelter for a month and the staff was hoping someone would rescue him. One of our volunteers saw him on Petfinder and wanted him to be our first rescue in honor of Old Yeller (Jojo). He’s an 8 year old Collie and was found wandering the streets completely dehydrated. They treated him at the shelter for heat exhaustion and he managed to survive. We plan to get him healthy and look for a home that will allow him to live the remainder of his life with love and happiness. }

Alpha had his day at the spa and vet visit. He weighs 26 lbs., heart worm positive, full of hookworms and had a white blood cell count of 21,000. He needed to be saved! We will work on the most pressing issues first and then go back for further tests once we get him built up. He's super sweet and just goes with the flow. It's shocking that a dog can be this emaciated and still be standing even though it's not for long periods of time. Lisa is very good at getting weight back on a dog so she'll work very hard to get him back to a healthy weight. Stay tuned in to be updated on his progress.

Jojo and Coweta County Animal Control

Jojo, or Old Yeller as some have named him, was a 5-7 year old yellow lab who suffered unnecessarily for four days in the Coweta County Animal Control Shelter. After being taken to a vet by GHS and examined, it was determined that nothing could be done for him other than to end his suffering. So he was humanely euthanized.

Although GHS and other rescue groups have worked for years toward shelter reform in Coweta County, Jojo touched off a big public outcry both local and global. This situtation reflects a local, state and national issue that can be solved. Jojo, you did not die in vain. Below are links to the story, social media groups and petitiion drive:
