Having a "dawg gone" good time are (L-R) Rich "Sully" Sullivan from Dave FM, former GA Tech quarterback John Dewberry (and his dog Georgia Girl), CNN's Kathleen Kennedy and D.J. Shockley of the Atlanta Falcons.

Duluth, GA - Supporters of the Georgia Humane Society enjoyed a delicious dinner, good music and mingled with local celebrities at the recent Purrls & Tails Dinner & Auction held in the ballroom of the Gwinnett Convention Center in Duluth, GA. The benefit, which included a live auction and silent auction, raised nearly $20,000 to help fund a new pet adoption center in Gwinnett County.

Former Georgia Bulldog and current Atlanta Falcon quarterback D. J. Shockley signed autographs, answered questions from the audience and spoke about his recently-acquired bulldog. Former Georgia Tech star quarterback John Dewberry discussed his childhood growing up surrounded by animals on his family's farm, but was upstaged most of the evening by his own dog "Georgia Girl", his German short-haired Pointer that escorted him to the event. Kathleen Kennedy of CNN Headline News talked about the importance of humane organizations and the challenges they face.

Other speakers included GHS President Michelle Humphries who outlined the goals and objectives of the organization. Rich "Sully" Sullivan of Dave FM served as the evening's emcee.

The mission of the Georgia Humane Society is to reduce the number of healthy animals euthanized in Georgia by implementing successful adoption and spay/neuter programs while promoting responsible pet ownership and humane education. As a "no kill" organization, all healthy animals are fully vetted prior to adoption which includes updated vaccinations, heartworm treatment, flea prevention, spay or neuter, and micro-chip.
